Books, where are thy pull to mine heart?

I am so behind on my reading.

You ever find yourself doing that? Buying more books, knowing you have a huge stack waiting for you? This is just a representation of the physical books I have. Doesn't even come close to the 3000 or so eBooks I have.

What am I currently reading? When I get back to it? Don't laugh. Or think I've flipped out or anything but...

Plato's The Republic. I found a great translation in modern English, which makes it easier to read and

understand.

The book reads like a fictional story -- and it may be, for all I know -- but it's really a series of discussions on various topics. Plato's view of society vs what he wanted for society. That perfection of soul, the perfection of humanity. Not because that's who we are but how we are always striving to be.

If you're interested, the ISBN is 978-0141917696. The Penguin Classic. Modern translation in modern English. And do yourself a favor, just read it like it was fiction. Not for a class, not for a study. Just take it all as a journey and a story. I kept getting bogged down in the details and that confused me mightily. Once I just decided to read it as a story, things smoothed out for me.

I have half a day at work tomorrow for Good Friday. I got myself some new teabags in lots of lovely flavors and types. After work tomorrow, I have to run to the store and I plan to get some cookies and muffins for reading pleasures. I'm taking the entire weekend to read and absorb philosophy.

Yeah. I know. I'm weird that way. But worry not, April 20th, I'll be back to the latest Mona Moon Mystery by Abigail Keam. And you'll get my review. And probably one of The Republic before then. ;-)

Keep on reading!
