“Dave,” he said. “I never wanted to sleep with my assistants. I paid them to do a job, not fuck the boss.”

I wanted to ask, ‘why me, then?’ but he changed the subject and I never got the chance. When we’d finished the day’s work, he was off with Gisele and banging her in the pool. I had gone upstairs to do the same thing to Elyssa in the shower. Rick and I never touched each other, never looked at each other that way in the mansion. His rule, not mine. I just thought it had more to do with the women not knowing and I left it at that. For me, it was keeping a part of myself private and only mine. Either way, I didn’t quite understand what it was that made him approach me that day.

What I also didn’t understand was why I kept going back for more. We took our business trips and the ones we took together were normally without the women. The part that was just mine again. The trips where we finished our business and took an extra day or two to find a new level of depravity and hedonism. To find some place that we could be alone in, to explore each other’s bodies and revel in the sexual aspect of our relationship.

I was looking forward to this trip to Russia. I’d done a little digging with a group online and found a small place outside of Kiev that would do just the right trick for us. Not completely like the Taipei sex mall, but certainly a place for fetishists and those who wanted their sex a lot less vanilla. I was going to surprise Rick with the place. But he ended up surprising me—especially when I realized what day it was.

He closed the lid of his laptop and stared at me over the desk. “Dave? Time to close up shop.”

I stared stupidly at him, not sure what the hell he was talking about at first.

“I’m leaving on Sunday?” he said, as if talking to a child.

“What? That’s a few days away.” Wasn’t it? I thought to myself.

He chuckled, his chest resonating with the sound of it. “Try day after tomorrow, man.”

“No!” I stuck the cursor down on the time indicator on the screen and sure enough, the date popped up along with the confirmation of what day it really was—Friday. “What the fuck? Where did the week go?”

It was nice to make him laugh—he had a great laugh. It was a cross between the purr of a kitten and the growl of an animal in heat. His laugh never failed to make me hot and unable to breathe. But right this minute, I wasn’t trying to be funny. I was seriously freaking out. Where had the week gone? And I wasn’t even packed or ready for Russia. Shit!

“I want to take a drive.”

I watched him, not sure what to do. There was something in the way he said it, something in the look on his face. He stared down at the lid of his laptop, his fingers stroking it restlessly. The laughing face was gone, replaced by the furrowing of his brow.

“Rick?”

He raised his gaze, the furrowing gone and his brow smooth once more. “Yeah? Oh. Uh, nothing, Dave. I just…. I just want to take a drive. Go with me?”

The last time he’d taken me for a drive, he made me president of the new company, an olive grove and press to make oil. We’d also taken the afternoon to picnic in the woods and we’d had some really intense sex. Was that day on his mind? Was that his intention? Tell you the truth, my dick got hard just thinking about it. I was more than eager.

“Sure,” I answered and smiled at him. “Let’s go.”

Novella 3 — Chapter Excerpt

Rick came along and in a very short time, changed all of that. He taught me how to be urbane, how to open up to the new possibilities of life. He taught me how to speak and act as a gentleman, how to dress as a gentleman. He stopped being my boss about twenty-four hours or so after he hired me. He became my mentor and my friend. Then, we took that fateful trip to Taipei and even that changed. We took a drive to the sex mall, took that steamy sauna alone, and took the step across a threshold that I had never planned to take in my life.

I asked him about that once, kidding around really. You know, one of those questions that I just tossed out as a joke. “You sleep with all of your assistants? Hell of a job perk.”

He looked at me, surprised at first, with his eyes wide open and his mouth working, like he wanted to say something but he wasn’t sure how to say it. He chewed on it for a few seconds, the surprised look going away and his brow furrowed as he bit his lower lip. I wasn’t sure if I’d given him something to think about or if I’d just insulted him. Then the sweet smile lit up his face, the one that made every woman on the planet want to bone him until he was just a greasy spot on the pillow.
